The Unwanted Hitch-Hiker or The Stalker Cat

So this has nothing to do with student teaching but a lot to do with my day today. For those of you who don’t know, I am not a cat lover. I had a bad experience. I don’t have malicious feelings towards cats I’m just not the fondest.

This morning I am making breakfast and I hear this horrible noise coming from outside. It was an awful wailing sound. Finally I figured that it was a cat and it was somewhere close and must be poisoned or something because it sounds like it is in pain and is dying. So I peak out the front door and see the cat backed into the corner and it is not happy to see me and lunged a little at the door. I slammed the door in a panic and Hans laughed at me. But now I am terrified to get out of the apartment because this poisoned cat still has energy and is angrily waiting outside my door to attack me.

I should describe the cat. It is a dark grey, without a collar, and they yellowest, creepiest eyes you have ever seen.

Thankfully when the neighbors leave a while later they somehow get the cat to leave. End of story? I wish! About 3 minutes later the wailing is back but now it sounds like it is somewhere in the back. Hans opens the door and this cat is backed into the corner of the patio just outside our door. He went all around the building and chose our patio to hid out it? So weird. The cat then runs off and I don’t hear from it and go cautiously out to my car and happily off to school.

My drive to school is about 12 minutes long, I drive a stick (not the smoothest ride) and most of the time the speed limit is 35 mph.

I am at school for 8 hours. I then dive to my friend, Emily’s house 3 blocks away and park. As soon as I get out of the car there is the horrible wailing sound again! Emily and I were terrified. I thought I had killed a cat but I was sure there was nothing in the road when I pulled up. Well, it was the same cat! Not Kidding! We couldn’t figure out how but that same cat was there under my car with the same loud wailing sound. The neighbors were looking like we had killed a cat. But we can’t get it to come out from under the car for more then a second. It looks well fed and clean but no collar and clearly not dying of poison!
So Emily and I have to take her car to the store for our errands and when we come back there is no sign of the cat. Emily kicks the bumper and yells to make sure the cat isn’t under the car. I get in and start the engine. Still no cat. Emily watches as I pull away but no kitty. Just when I am almost to the end of the block and I think that the coast is clear, the curse is broken, the kitty is gone…I hear a loud THUNK! THUNK! And the floor vibrates under my feet. I screamed, sure I had killed the cat this time. Slamming on the breaks I look in the rear view mirror to see the cat sitting in the middle of the road looking around. After a few seconds the cat runs under the nearest car, a green explorer. I am sitting in my car trying to stop shaking and regain my composure before continuing on my way. I am watching the cat this whole time to make sure it does try to hitch hike with me again and after sitting under the car for about a minute it hops up and vanishes in the under carriage of the explorer!

This cat is the craziest hitch hiker ever! Maybe he came to our apartment from the Whaley’s last night or maybe he came with someone else. But he rode all the way from our apartment to school under the car and sat under the car for 8 hours and then rode another 3 blocks before beginning its wailing again! Then it jumped from a moving vehicle and survived!

This cat has a serious car fetish! And I hope to never see it again.

Kjerste and Derek, if someone is looking for a missing grey cat in your neighborhood just let them know that it is under a green explorer on North Winnifred.

That's scary!! I've heard cats/other animals can hid under your car but I hadn't heard about it from someone I know. I think he came to your porch b/c he knows you don't really like cats. They can sense that type of thing. They always go to the people who don't want to be near them.

"I don't do dogs...I had a bad experience...I SAID, I had a bad experience!"

As if you needed more encouragement not to get a cat! Ha - what a crazy story!

How scary! Ya, I am not much of a cat fan myself. Actually any animals for that matter.

Now you and Hans both have a cat story to tell.
